On June 12, Joanne Samalens-Lagardère, a 6th-grader at Anglet's Stella Maris secondary school, won the grand final of the national reading competition for the program "Si on lisait à voix haute", broadcast on France 5. And it was with her reading of Richard Bach's "Jonathan Livingstone le goéland" that Joanne came out on top, praised by the jury for her elocution and ability to captivate the audience.
The final of this major national reading competition brought together the 9 best candidates selected from among the 120,000 students registered this year. To convince the jury, the candidates had to successfully read a text drawn at random the day before the final. Their mission: to meet as closely as possible the four criteria for good reading aloud - fluency of articulation, rhythm, posture and ability to convey emotion.
