On March 27th, we are celebrating the feast of Fr. Cestac, a most joyful occasion for all of us. In preparation of the feast, in each week of March, small reflections will be uploaded. We wish you a fruitful preparation!
As Pope Francis proposes a “Year of the Family " to the whole Church, let us turn our gaze to Blessed Cestac for whom the family had such a great place in his life and work.
"The family", wrote Pope Francis, "is the place of integral formation...of personal maturity. In the family, one develops the first reflexes of love and preservation of life." (Laudato Si' - n°213)
Father Cestac lived an authentic family life, where he could develop the richness of his nature. In his notes, he writes to Marie: "You put in the family an affection, a mutual trust which makes us all happy." (Marial Itinerary, p.123)
Let's listen to him talking about his mother's affection: "My poor mother! She was so good! She loved me with such affection, so tender!" (Letter, 1855),
and fraternal ties, with her younger sister Elise: "I was her brother and godfather; she was attached to me as a sister and goddaughter. She loved me with an incredible affection, but with a simple, familiar, easy affection, like we love each other in a close-knit family." (I.M., p.102)
What about us?
Do we want to live, wherever we are, the fundamental values of all family life that are very simple?
