On March 27th, we are celebrating the feast of Fr. Cestac, a most joyful occasion for all of us. In preparation of the feast, in each week of March, small reflections will be uploaded. We wish you a fruitful preparation!
The Servants of Mary are called to form or rebuild the Christian family. Father Cestac notes this:
"Is not our mission to form Christian families? This is the goal of our efforts and the Christian family is formed above all by the Christian mother…" (Letter, 1856)
He explains to the religious, in a circular of February 1867, how he sees this mission:
"Our mission is great and to the reconstitution of the family by the Christian mother..."
And he draws a magnificent portrait of this mother:
"A Christian mother! What a great and holy thing, what power to do good!
Her goodness wins all hearts; her wisdom, her prudence, lead everyone in the ways of order; her firmness keeps them in duty, her gentle piety inserts itself into souls and makes them lovable the yoke of the divine law; in a word, she is on earth the reflection and image of the Mother of Heaven."
And for us, today, what vision do we have of the family?
Do we believe in its importance?
